After completing 18 years at TSS, now Kuoni Tumlare, I have had the opportunity to witness and participate in a remarkable transformation in enterprise software.
When I started my journey, enterprise applications looked very different. Systems were built around technologies and architectures that were designed for the needs of their time. Over the years, I have seen applications evolve from traditional enterprise platforms and legacy technologies to APIs, cloud platforms, modern data architectures, analytics, and user-focused digital experiences.
Yet one thing has remained constant: enterprise businesses cannot simply stop yesterday’s technology and start again tomorrow.
Behind every application are years of business knowledge, processes, integrations, data, and user experience. Contracts, suppliers, tours, documents, negotiations, bookings, and operational workflows all depend on systems that need to keep working every day.
These platforms connect people, processes, and information across the business. They may not always be visible, but they are at the heart of how an enterprise operates.
That is what makes enterprise technology transformation so different from simply adopting something new. It is not about replacing everything that came before. It is about understanding what already works, identifying what needs to change, and finding a practical way to move forward without disrupting the business.
After 18 years in this environment, this is perhaps one of the biggest lessons I have learned: modernisation is not just a technology exercise. It is a continuous journey of balancing innovation with stability, business needs with technical possibilities, and the future with everything that still needs to work today.
